Urgent Statement
The coalition of humanitarian relief and its members and partners, are monitoring with great concern the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Taiz Governorate, which is increasing day after day under a terrible silence and ignore to the suffering by the United Nations organizations and humanitarian international organizations.
Under this silence, the people of this province are exposed to death and diseases of malnutrition because of poverty, and the monthly salaries to employees stopped, and stop sending relief and humanitarian aid to those affected and displaced by the war since August 2016 until March 2017.
While the scope of the war and areas of displacement in the villages and countryside of Taiz are getting wide, and some of the international organizations releases its reports, warning of a humanitarian disaster and famine at the gates of Taiz.
In a continuation to the tragedy in Taiz, the number of families that have been forcibly expelled from the districts of the Governorate reached 178.556, the majority of those families did not get any food or shelter aid, and they are still displaced in camps made in primitive way, the latest displacement batch was the displacement of Allowazeia, Alkdhh and Tobeshaah districts in the southwestern of Taiz.
Adding to the tragedy of displaced and expelled people, the damage and destruction that reached their houses by the blast or direct and random bombardment that reached about 4204 house and public facility since the begging of the war until early current March.
In addition, the victims who are dying daily due to the war, the number of the dead until early March reached 3564, and the number of injured people arrived 16601.
In view of the health situation, 116 health facility Stopped of work, 32 hospital and health facility had been affected by the war, while only nine major hospitals in the city works and provides health services by 40%, and there are 20 health center in the countryside does not offer emergency services and inpatient, in addition 4638 people are suffering from the cancer.
In the field of education, the war has forced 200 thousand students from 885 thousand to stop receiving education in the schools Taiz, because of war and displacement they experience with their teachers and the damaged that reached the educational institutions.
From 1600 different school in the districts of Taiz province, there are 129 schools unfit to teach, and 171 other school has become a shelter for the displaced.
The coalition of humanitarian relief and its members and partners has warned on many previous occasions of the seriousness of the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Taiz, and they are on the brink of famine and imminent humanitarian catastrophe, but we get no response.
A reports have been send to the coalition of humanitarian relief from academics and students in Taiz public University –the biggest university in Taiz- about students get frequent cases of fainting, And after being taken to hospital the reports show that they did not eat since the previous day.
At last, we in the humanitarian relief coalition and its members, partners and with us all governmental partners and civil society organizations in the Governorate of Taiz, we renew our call for the organizations of the United Nations and the humanitarian and donor organizations to quickly send aid and humanitarian relief to the affected people in Taiz, after having been stopped since the partial breakage of the blockade About the city from the west in the middle of August of the last year 2016, unless everyone assumes full responsibility for the lives and safety of civilians by what they are exposed because of poverty and hunger.
